Nearly two decades after redefining the global K pop landscape, BIGBANG finally made their long awaited return to the desert stage at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, and the moment felt nothing short of historic.
From the second the opening notes of “Bang Bang Bang” echoed across the festival grounds, it was clear the group wasn’t simply performing a set, they were celebrating a legacy. Blending explosive production with the genre bending sound that helped shape modern K pop, BIGBANG transformed Coachella into a euphoric, high energy tribute to their 20 year career.

The trio G Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung delivered a performance rooted in nostalgia and star power. Fans screamed through era defining tracks like “Fantastic Baby,” “Sober,” and “Loser,” while the emotional peak arrived with “Lies,” the breakout single that first propelled the group into mainstream success in 2007, topping charts for weeks and becoming a defining moment in K pop history.
Originally formed under YG Entertainment in 2006, BIGBANG quickly distinguished themselves from the traditional idol blueprint. Their early success with “Lies” marked a turning point not only for the group but for the global perception of K pop itself, cementing them as one of the genre’s most influential acts. The track helped establish their signature fusion of hip hop, R&B, electronic music, and bold visual identity.
That momentum only grew. Their early arena shows and the BIGBANG Great Concert reportedly sold out in minutes, signaling the beginning of a fan demand that would follow them worldwide. By 2012, their Alive Galaxy Tour expanded across 13 countries and 21 cities, drawing roughly 800,000 fans globally. Later tours scaled even further, including a 2015 world tour that surpassed a million attendees, solidifying their status as one of the most commercially powerful Korean acts of their generation.

Their Coachella appearance carried additional weight for longtime fans. Originally slated to take the stage in 2020, their performance was part of the wave of festival programming reshaped by the global COVID 19 pandemic, making their 2026 return a long awaited and celebratory full circle moment.
Between songs, the members took time to reflect on the milestone.
“2026 is our 20th year as BIGBANG,” Taeyang told the crowd. “The years have flown by so fast. We already spent half our lives together, and I’m so grateful to share our music and our passion with all of you. This stage tonight, Coachella, means a lot to us.”
Daesung followed with a heartfelt promise, “This has become an unforgettable memory for me, and we’re going to make even more unforgettable memories this year, so stay with us till the end.”
G Dragon closed the moment with a teasing hint of what’s ahead. “This year is BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary, it just started,” he said with a smile. “We’ve got some biiiiig things coming soon.”

And they meant it.
Shortly after the performance, BIGBANG officially announced their 20th anniversary world tour, beginning this August at Goyang Stadium. The tour marks not just a reunion, but the start of a new chapter for one of music’s most enduring and influential groups.
If Coachella proved anything, it’s that BIGBANG’s legacy hasn’t softened with time, it has only grown louder.
